Why Hot Water Extract

At Mushroom Science, we use hot water extractions to achieve our listed levels of active compounds –– levels that match the Traditional East Asian Medicine’s published scientific research in efficacy levels. We also complement Traditional East Asian Medicine’s recommendation for the exclusive use of hot water extracts when preparing medicinal mushrooms.

Our labels at Mushroom Science always list the precise levels of active compounds on every mushroom supplement. We are proud of our products’ subscription to Traditional East Asian Medicine research and we believe our customers deserve product transparency and efficacy.

Furthermore, Dr. Mark Stengler N.D., who was recently awarded Doctor of the Decade by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) in 2020, made the observation that the independent scientific studies on medicinal mushrooms are all based on the use of hot water extracts, in his book, “The Health Benefits of Medicinal Mushrooms.”

A study* published in Food & Agricultural Immunology revealed how hot water extracts of mushrooms successfully produce immune-stimulation by increasing the body’s phagocytic activity and nitric oxide production.

Mushroom Science Labs has conducted two major studies that highlighted the role of analytical chemistry as a tool in the quality control process when manufacturing mushroom supplements. The results of these studies were published in the only peer reviewed journal dedicated to medicinal mushrooms; The International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms.

Hot water extracts are the only type of mushroom supplement used or studied in the published research and the only supplemental form ever used in traditional herbal practice. Clinical research has been conducted on Coriolus Super Strength, Reishi Gano 161 and MaitakeGold.
